Look into the distance
Search high and low for hope
Look into the distance, all you will see is smog
And search through your memories, now clouded by thick fog
Search through those memories, and long for an image of love
Continue to wait in hope, for a peace driven dove
Wake up from your daze still stuck in a trench
Surrounded, waste deep in a filthy pool of wretch
Dig deep for some courage, there will not be much there
You didn’t sign up for this, how can it be fair?
Look to your left, or gaze to your right
Surrounded by lifeless soldiers
How long can you continue to fight?
Grenades fall like an unnoticed raindrop
Aroun you, wounded soldiers continue to flop
Limbs are lost like thoughts
As the enemy surrounds from the distance, like thousands of tiny dots
You worry about your family, or a longtime friend
“How are your wife and parents?” or “can my little girl walk yet?”
The thoughts persist in your head
When wil the death and despair end?
Soon you find a bullet, burrowed in your chest
Your mind will soon be put at rest
As you sit in a pool of blood, and try to go to the light
This is the brightest day you have seen, after a long, grim fight
You have visited death and kicked down the door!
You will not have to suffer any more
What else can you expect from the violent destruction of war?
